Chakrud or Chakrood Canyon is located in Rahim Abad, Gilan province. This canyon starts from the Peram Kuh region and flows to the Caspian Sea. There are several waterfalls in this canyon, most of which are about 6 meters high, there is a waterfall in the side canyon that has 30 meters in height. Chakrood Canyon is very long, but its entire length is inaccessible and only part of it can be canyoned. Chakrood is one of the popular canyons climbing destinations in northern Iran.

The summer weather gets warmer, so swimming in the cool water of the canyon is enjoyable. With the onset of autumn and heavy rains, access to this canyon is difficult and dangerous.

 

Flora and fauna of Chakrood Canyon

This area also has sufficient humidity and a suitable climate. As a result, various plants grow in the forests around the canyon. As you cross, a forest of the green spectrum appears in front of you, including beech, hornbeam, and plum trees, as well as hazelnuts, raspberries, wild grapes, and figs. Chakrood Canyon is a good place for animals to live. You may not see any signs of them around the region; but remember that animals like snakes, frogs, crabs, jackals, rabbits, and bears live. On the trees, you will find birds of prey, sparrows, nightingales, pheasants, crows, and butterflies.

Never travel to this canyon without the necessary equipment. Be sure to get the right shoes for this trip.  Pay attention to the following safety points:

  • In addition to rappelling with ropes in some places, especially at the bottom of the canyon, some obstacles must be overcome by hand and without rappelling gears, therefore it's essential to have the experience scrambling.
  • The presence of several deep pools has made it possible to passing a significant part of the canyon only through swimming.
  • Due to the presence of water and its high pressure, you must seal all your equipment.

Access routes to Chakrood Canyon

There are two ways to reach the canyon:

  • The first route: you have to move from Chalus or Rasht road to Rudsar and from there to Rahima Abad, we go between Rudsar and Ramsar and after Rahima Abad enter the dirt road of Tiyola village and finally after passing the last village on foot about 20 You will enter the valley in minutes
  • The Second route: move from Rasht road to Langerud city, after reaching there, you should go to the Otaghvar city. There is a sign at the beginning of the route that guides you. Next, go to Amlash, by continuing the route, then you will reach the Rahim Abad region, and then you will enter the dirt road of Tiyola village. Finally, after passing the last village, you will enter the valley on foot for about 20 minutes.
