Kholeno peak, the third peak of Central Alborz


Kholeno 4,380 m is one of the most beautiful peaks in Alborz. this peak is connected from the south to Shemshak and Rudbar-e Qasran, from the north to the valley of the river Varangeh Rud, from the east to the Lar plain and from the west by the ridge of Harzehkooh to the valley of the river Karaj is connected. This peak is the main source of the Varangeh Rud river, which is the main source of the Karaj Dam Lake. Kholeno is one of the technical and snowy peaks of Central Alborz and climbing it requires proper physical preparation.

 

Routes to the summit of Kholeno
Access to Kholeno Peak is usually done in one of following three ways:
• The most common route is through Laloon (Lalan) village (2,400 meters altitude) to Gardaneh-e Varz Āb, the peaks of Borj and small Kholeno Kuchak and main peak of Kholeno.
• Through Shemshak village (2,600 meters) to the mud shelter, Sarakachal peak 4,200 meters, Borj and small Kholeno.
• Through Varangeh river valley and Kholeno lake.

In this region we will find special plants like sorrel, wand, wild parsley, edible mushrooms, angelica. The animals of the region are special as plants, some examples of them are goat, ram, ewe, bear, fox, wolf, partridge, eagle and etc...
