 Mountaineering in Zagros – Dena

Dena (in Persian and Luri: دنا) is the name for a sub-range within the Zagros Mountains. Mount Dena, with 80 km length and 15 km average width, is situated on the boundary of the Isfahan, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad and Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari provinces.

Mount Dena has more than 40 peaks higher than 4000 metres. With an elevation of 4,409 metres above sea level, Qash-Mastan is the highest peak in the Dena Range and in the Zagros Mountains in general. Another famous peak in this range is Hose-Daal close to the city of Sisakht, 30 km to the north of Yasuj.

Annual precipitation in Mount Dena is from 600 to 1800 mm and various rivers including a branch of the Karun rise in this range. Geologically, Mount Dena is located in the Sanandaj-Sirjan geologic and structural zone of Iran and is mainly made of Cretaceous limestone.

1arrival to Shiraz airport. Drive direct to Sisakht city 3hours. Base of Dena range. Take breakfast drive to visit Kuhgol waterfall. Also trekking in the area and visit local people. Take the local meal. Back to Sisakht.

2After breakfast start trekking in the south face of Dena mountain range via beautiful Bozkosh Valley. 5-6 hours. Have the lunch pack in the way and Back to the Sisakht.

3After breakfast drive to the Bijan pass 3200m. start climbing the peak Barfkermoo 4100m with an amazing view of Dena mountain range. 5-6hours.  Back to the Sisakht.

4Driving to Dehsheikh beautiful cave. Drive to Shiraz.
