The Caspian Hyrcanian mixed forests ecoregion, in the world's temperate broadleaf and mixed forests biome, are a zone of lush lowland and montane forests covering about 55,000 square kilometres (21,000 sq mi) adjoining the shores of the Caspian Sea of Iran and part of that of Azerbaijan. The forest is named after the ancient region of Hyrcania. Since 5 July 2019, the Hyrcanian Forests have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Concentrated in Iran, this ecoregion comprises a long strip. This is the coast along the Caspian Sea and the northern slopes of the Alborz Mountains. It covers parts of five provinces, from east to west.
Alborz, also spelled as Alburz, Elburz or Elborz, is a mountain range in northern Iran that stretches from the border of Azerbaijan along the western and entire southern coast of the Caspian Sea and finally runs northeast and merges into the Aladagh Mountains in the northern parts of Khorasan. The Western Alborz Range (usually called the Talish Mountains) runs south-southeastward almost along the western coast of the Caspian Sea.

Kurdistan province is located in the west of Iran bordering Iraq. The highest mountain which is located in the southeast of Saghez is called Chehel Cheshmeh with a height of 3173 meters above the sea level. The route considered in this program has a moderate to high degree of difficulty for cycling due to crossing mountainous areas. Hamedan is believed to be among the oldest Iranian cities. It is possible that it was occupied by the Assyrians in 1100 BCE; the Ancient Greek historian, Herodotus, states that it was the capital of the Medes, around 700 BCE. Due to the high altitude difference between the depths of the valleys and the ridges of the mountains that may be traversed in one day, it is possible that we will experience very hot and cold temperatures within a few hours.
