Reghez Canyon is one of the most attractive places for canyoners. The large walls of the canyon sometimes come together along the way and evoke a cave. They distance themselves from each other and create a beautiful area. Reghez means a new and slippery road. Although this name is among the mountaineers and nature lovers of Iran, the locals call it Rudkhiz.

 

Reghez Canyon features

The ponds of Reghez Canyon have a depth of 6 to 20 meters, which reaches 50 meters in length. Reghez Canyon, with approximately four kilometers length along the north to south from the source of Reghez to the Southern front, has 64 waterfalls and 100 natural ponds.

Only 14 waterfalls and reservoirs of the South canyon have been of interest to the general public. By reaching the last waterfall at 35 meters in height, the South Canyon reaches a dead end. The water depth in the canyon of some ponds reaches 20 meters.

Between Sarcheshmeh area and the southern front of Reghez, tens of beautiful waterfalls and reservoirs and pristine nature can be explored only using technical means.

It is possible to visit several ponds and waterfalls without technical equipment, finally, reaching the 23-meter-long waterfall, the canyoning stops. The tallest waterfall in this canyon is Azarakhsh waterfall with 65 meters and the last waterfall with 46 meters in height.

The most important waterfalls of the region are: Negin waterfall (height 16 meters), water depth 8 meters and pool length 41 meters (Boom Rang waterfall (height 7 meters, water depth 8 meters and pool length 31 meters), Massoud waterfall (height 8 meters, water depth 12 meters and pond length 15 meters), Gulab waterfall (height 11 meters, water depth 7 meters and pond length 12 meters), Fatah waterfall (height 8 meters, water depth 1.5 meters and pond length 6 meters), Hekmat waterfall (height 11 meters, water depth 15 meters and length of the pond 32 meters)

 

Best time for canyoning in Reghez

Reghez canyon is located in Fasarood district; 30 km northwest of Darab city and near Reghez village. For reaching Reghez Canyon, you must first go to Darab, after traveling about 35 km distance, you will reach Darakooyeh pass. After passing the tree-lined mountain area and the dirt road after an hour, you continue to the road on foot. From the right side of the road and after start walking, you will reach Bidak spring.  Continue the path without slope, Gradually the slope increases, and then it is a slope and bypassing over large rocks, you finally reach the spring in a path without slope. The distance of Reghez Canyon to Shiraz is more than 250 km and about three hours driving.

For reaching Sarcheshmeh area, there are two navigation routes; one with about four hours of mountaineering and the other route with about two hours by car and about two hours of mountaineering. There are about three kilometers of hiking trail in the clear waters of this canyon, which in some cases requires the use of special rock-climbing equipment and workshops.

Late spring and summer are the best time to visit Reghez Canyon.

 

Technical and safety tips for Reghez canyon

  • It is possible to cross the canyon in one day, but having a bivouac bag with you is enough to spend the night.

  • To descend from the waterfall, be sure to bring the right shoes for the canyon, and it is better not to use the closed front and back hiking chairs, as the rocks inside the ponds and rocks may damage your feet.
  • You do not need a headlamp to cross this canyon, and there is enough light through; a flashlight is needed at night.
  • It is best to have an insect repellent pen with you during the night to stay in Sarcheshmeh to avoid mosquito bites.
  • You can stay the night in some safe places in the canyon.
