How long does it take to climb Damavand?


Damavand is considered the highest peak of Iran with a height of 5610 meters and is also one of the seven highest volcanoes of the seven continents. Climbing Damavand takes between 3 to 6 days, depending on which route you climb the peak.

The main routes to climb Damavand are:

South fac: In this route, two days of acclimatization are usually done at Tochal peak at a height of 3960 meters or hiking at Kolun Bastak peak. Tochal peak is located in the north of Tehran, and because of the cable car on the way back, it is considered one of the best peaks for air conditioning before Damavand.

Northeast face: In this route, two days of acclimatization are usually done at Tochal peak at a height of 3960 meters or hiking at Kolun Bastak peak.

To climbing Damavand, usually 2 days will be spent on acclimatization and 3 to 4 days is spend for climbing the peak.  The base camps of Damavand are located at an altitude of about 2000 meters and the higher camps are located at an altitude of about 4200 meters. You can use climbing huts on the southern face and tents on the other faces. Also, in the southern and northeastern routes, you can use horses and mules to carry luggage to higher altitudes.

If you have limited time to climb, you can climb Damavand in 4 days from Rineh village and do acclimatization on the mountain itself. Note that for this itinerary, you should have a good fitness and previous acclimatization.

 

Also, you can climb Damavand peak along with Alam Kouh peak 4860m, which is the second highest peak of Iran, in an 8-day itinerary. Climbing Alam Kouh and Damavand will be a very interesting program including climbing these two peaks and visiting the Caspian Sea. The three highest peaks of Iran, Damavand 5610m, Alam Kouh 4860m and Sablan 4811m, can also be climbed in the form of a 12-day itinerary.
